Ghostriders will face some season demons this weekend as they near the end of the regular season.
On Friday the team play Beaver Valley Nitehawks at home, and will be looking to reverse the results of the last meeting between the teams in October, when Beaver Valley beat them 6-3 in the Riders' first loss of the season.
“Our guys remember that game quite well – it was a wake-up call for our club to be better on the road, and to be better in a lot of different areas. We will be looking to redeem ourselves,” said head coach Will Verner this week.
He added: “We have lost once to Nelson, once to Castlegar, once to Beaver Valley – the Neil Murdoch Division has shown up as the leader of the pack this year.”
On Saturday the Riders return to Golden for the second week straight, and will hope to repeat last weekend's performance, when they won in the Rockets' home arena for the first time this season, scoring 4-3.
“It is going to be a battle,” said Verner. “They lost on Sunday to Chase, they are battling for second place in the division with Kimberley and Creston. Right now anything could happen in those second, third, fourth places – it is going to be an intense match.
“For us we have got our sights on winning the Kootenay Conference – we have got to score more points to get it.”
Riders currently sit at the top of the Kootenay Conference with 76 points. Nelson Leafs are in second place with 69 points.
