Cattle truck collision kills Sparwood man
A man from Sparwood has died after the SUV he was driving collided with a cattle truck in the Crowsnest Pass.
At around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Crowsnest Pass RCMP responded to a collision on Highway 3 near Crowsnest Lake, about 12 km west of the Crowsnest Pass.
The SUV, travelling eastbound, collided with a semi hauling a load of cattle, travelling westbound.
Police said visibility was poor at the time due to weather conditions and ongoing snow clearing on the roads.
“There was a lot of blowing snow and also snow ploughs were affecting visibility,” said Sgt. Scott Howard from Crowsnest Pass RCMP.
“The driver of the SUV was dead at the scene. The driver and passenger in the semi were not injured but were taken to Crowsnest Pass Hospital to be examined and were released soon after.”
Sgt. Howard said the details of how the vehicles came to collide are not yet known.
Jeffery Evans, 48, from Sparwood was the only occupant of the SUV.
The highway was closed for about five hours.
None of the cattle were reportedly injured.
A collision analyst from Calgary attended the scene and the RCMP are continuing their investigation.
