Snow Sisters fundraising
Relay For Life teams are out in full force, fundraising for the upcoming race, but one team is putting their own spin on the fundraising efforts.
The Snow Sisters team formed five years ago and is preparing to raise money for their sixth Relay for Life.
“We got involved five years ago,” said team captain Melissa Fleischacker. “We are a group of 10 to 12 women who enjoy recreating outdoors and decided to start trying to raise some money.”
The Snow Sisters have raised $40,000 over the last five years and are hoping with this year they will have raised $50,000.
The first is the annual glamour movie night this Friday at the Vogue Theatre.
There will be an exclusive showing of Mamma Mia wth a Dancing Queen after party at Picnic Restaurant.
Tickets are available at Barkside Pets and the Elk Valley Job Seekers.
The Snow Sisters are also asking the community to get out their high heels for the Heel2Heal stiletto race.
The race starts at 5 p.m. on May 14 in front of Beanpod Chocolate on Second Avenue in Fernie and will end in front of the Brickhouse.
Even though women are normally the ones sporting high heels, the Snow Sisters are creating a men’s category in the race as well.
Interested runners will be able to register online at www.zone4.ca. There will also be registration forms around town before the race and for last minute registration there will be a table set up at Beanpod.
