Students at Isabella Dicken Elementary School (IDES) made a big impact on Council with their letters pertaining to community issues.

Six letters where added to Council’s agenda on December 19, each one read aloud and taken very seriously. Some of the issues addressed in the letters included the problem of littering in our community, the need for recycling stations, the lack of street lights on Park Avenue and the need for more soccer fields.

Mayor Mary Giuliano directed city staff to look into these issues and report back to council with possible solutions to these problems.

Each child will receive a letter back from council and a sincere thank-you for being active members of the community.

Emily Dykhuizen’s and Lillian Folvik’s letter pertaining to the need for more soccer fields will accompany a grant application to the Province of British Columbia Community Recreation Program to re-develop the Max Turyk Soccer Fields.
