Local artist shows in Inveremere
A local Fernie artist is bringing her acrylic paintings to Invermere as part of her second solo show.
Janice Edwards has named the show Life’s a Beach and it showcases snippets of summer life at the lake or beach, and people relaxing in an informal atmosphere.
“I am constantly astouned by the beauty of nature, especially right here in western Canada,” said Edwards. “Also, I respond strongly to colour, especially bright colour. These are the sources I draw from in my visual art. Some of the boat houses in the current show seem to have their own history, which I was happy to record on canvas.”
Edwards is also an avid photographer who often takes reference shots to form the basis of inspiration for her paintings.
Her photographs have appeared in the Fernie Fix and in the Columbia Basin Trust 2011 calendar.
Edward’s first solo show was at home in Fernie at The Arts Station.
Colours of the Kootenays showcased semi-abstract landscapes of the local mountains in bright fall colours.
Edwards is currently participating in the Kindred Spirits show at The Arts Station as part of the Visual Arts Guild.
One of her paintings was also selected as part of this year’s Banner Project.
Life’s a Beach is showing at the Pynelogs Cultural Centre Gallery in Invermere.
