A young man from Jaffray who was driving a car which crashed, killing his best friend, is being charged with causing his death.

Kyle Allen Neidig will appear in court in Cranbrook on Tuesday, charged with criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death and causing an accident resulting in death.

Ian Charles Alan Shepherd, 23, from Jaffray, died at the scene of the crash on Highway 3 just east of Cranbrook just before 3 a.m. on June 11, 2010.

The young bull rider had been thrown from the car during the crash and had not been wearing a seatbelt.

Neidig, 24, was driving and was wearing a seatbelt. He only sustained minor injuries. Both men were trained in highway rescue as volunteer firefighters.

The RCMP East Kootenay Traffic Services brought the charges against Neidig following a lengthy investigation into the incident.
