Fording River union reaches agreement
Teck and workers at the Fording River mine have reached a collective tentative agreement for five years.
The negotiating committee of Local 7884 of the United Steelworkers, in Elkford, is unanimously recommending ratification of the tentative agreement to its membership.
“We have been through this all many times. The bargaining was all quite straight forward and took about eight to 10 days of meetings,” said Union President Don Takala.
“Now it is up to the membership. We are unanimously recommending the membership accept it as we feel it is a great package that reflects the needs of the people. I’m sure it will pass with flying colours.”
Teck said that no other terms of the agreement will be disclosed until the ratification vote is complete.
Voting started Tuesday and will end on Sunday, May 8, when the results of the vote will be released at 8 p.m.
