Coal Miner Days is coming

Sparwood’s annual Coal Miner Days will kick off on Friday night with a weekend of fun for all ages.

“This is the best year yet,” said Coal Miner Days organizer Renee MacCormack.

This years Coal Miner Days starts off on Friday night with tons of great events for kids and adults.

Friday’s festivities will include a rock climbing wall, a ball hockey tournament, a slo-pitch tournament and MacCormack’s favourite, the fourth annual bed races.

“Teams of five dress up in costume and push a bed down the road,” she said. “The crowd often throws water balloons.”

Saturday starts off with the Lions pancake breakfast. There will also be the parade at 10:30 a.m, kids fest, beach volleyball, a demolition derby and in the evening for adults there will be a cabaret at the curling rink.

“A new event on Saturday will be the Dutch oven cook-off,” said MacCormack.

There will be more great events on Sunday including more ball hockey and the soapbox derby.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun and people should definitely come out,” she said.
