Kicking back at soccer camp in Fernie BC

soccerwebkid.jpg

Elk Valley kids have been learning about “the beautiful game” of soccer, from coaches visiting from the self-titled home of the sport.

The British Soccer Camp, run by Challenger Sports at Isabella Dicken Elementary school last week, gave local kids a taste of soccer from across the pond.

The camp ran from Monday to Friday and involved a range of training exercises off and on the pitch.

They learned dribbling and ball skills, passing and teamwork, shooting and striking the ball correctly and heading the ball.

Throughout the week they also played in a team named after a country in the World Cup and made flags and learned facts about that country.

They even made their own replica World Cup trophies and, at the end of the week the winner of the world cup tournament got to hold it high in the air and listen to the crowds cheering.
