West Fernie discussions continue
RDEK Area A Director Mike Sosnowski has announced that there will be more time provided for further public consultation for residents of West Fernie regarding the consultation on infrastructure.
"I heard some questions that still need to be addressed, for instance, several people asked about the City of Fernie's position with respect to West Fernie and another area of concern was the current costs identified per property,” he said.
“I asked to have the "Petition for Service" postponed until some time in the New Year so we can gather more information and bring it back to another public information meeting." Director Sosnowski plans to ask staff to do a Cost Benefit Analysis to determine what the City's cost would be to service the needs of West Fernie and assess what benefits West Fernie would bring to the City.
He said this information will form the basis of a broader discussion with the City of Fernie.
"During this additional period, I am also looking to acquire more funding from the Provincial and Federal Governments that would reduce the costs to the property owners in West Fernie - during the last public consultation, I heard from the residents of West Fernie that they are interested in new infrastructure but they want clarity on the City of Fernie position and how the costs can be mitigated for property owners."
