Young Fernie couple missing overnight, found safe
A teenage couple who went for a drive last night and got their truck stuck in snow were found this morning after an overnight search.
Ryan Teeple, 19, and and Rhylynn Fowler, 16, both from Fernie, decided to go for a drive at about 7 p.m. last night, telling family they would be back by 9 p.m.
When they had not returned by 10 p.m. family members started searching for them, and called Search and Rescue for help at 1 a.m.
About 30 people including avalanche technicians and snowmobiles searched the area, finally finding the couple on Lodgepole Road at about 10 a.m.
Simon Piney from Fernie Search and Rescue said the couple are fine.
"A helicopter is currently on it's way to pick them up," he said at 10.20 a.m.
"But by all accounts they are healthy, happy and safe.
"We conducted a massive search last night and we had searched Lodgepole Road last night but hadn't got that far down it.
"Two conservation offficers, helping in the search, found them this morning.
"It had snowed pretty hard so I'm guessing the truck had got stuck."
Piney said the couple were usually very reliable at returning home when they said they would, so the family had become very concerned.
