Fernie man leads big mountain snowboarding competition
A Fernie man is in the lead after day one of a big mountain snowboarding competition.
After competing on Wednesday at The North Face Masters of Snowboarding at Crystal Mountain Resort in Washington, Jamie Rizzuto, from Fernie is leadin the men’s competition.
Seventy-three male and 27 female big mountain snowboard competitors battled for a spot in the finals of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding.
Rizzuto earned a high score of 91.67 out of a possible 100 in the men’s competition.
“I picked my way through the rocky top section, snuck in one huge powder slash and then straight-lined an air at the bottom,” said Rizzuto. “Riding in these events is great because I get to be with people that love snowboarding as much as I do.”
The North Face Masters of Snowboarding from Crystal Mountain, Washington continues today (Thursday) with mens and womens finals.
