Elkford prepares to celebrate winter
Elkford will be the place to find fun next weekend, as the town kicks off the first annual Winter in the Wild Carnival. In a joint effort with the District of Elkford, the Elkford Chamber of Commerce and many local clubs, this event, from February 24 to 26, is full of family friendly activities.
"There are so many things to do," says Nicole Juneau, Elkford Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator.
"The weekend will encompass many traditional winter activities such as hockey, sleigh rides and sledding as well as a lot of other games and activities such as snow golf, snow ball and paintball and more. On Saturday evening we will be having a supper and social at the Recreation Department where all ages are welcome, children will even be read a bedtime story before families head home," says Juneau. "We just really wanted to have this event to have something for families. The support we have received from almost every club in town has been awesome and will make the event successful and very entertaining."
All Elkford residents have been invited to construct a snowman or snowman-like figure in their front yards and adorn it with as many lights as possible. On Friday at 5:30 p.m, everyone will light up their snowman, kicking off the carnival.
"Staying with the theme of lights, all residents and visitors are welcome to join a light procession that will begin about 5:45 p.m. on Friday evening as well. People can grab a flashlight, dress warm and walk up to Wapiti Ski Hill where a torch relay, free teen skiing, movies, a bonfire and fireworks will continue to light up the night," says Juneau.
The weekend's events will be of interest to all ages, and guaranteed to be a good time. To wind down on Sunday the Early Childhood Development Committee will be hosting a free preschool party, complete with dancing and pizza.
All Elk Valley residents and visitors are invited to attend Elkford's Winter in the Wild Carnival.
