Police are hunting for a couple from Fort Mcleod who have not been heard from since they left for a day trip to Fernie on Saturday.

Although no foul play is suspected in this matter, police and the family of Anja and Jacob Oosterwijk are anxious to locate the couple and ensure that they are safe.  It is very unusual for the couple not to be in regular contact with their family, and the concern is that they may be stranded in a remote area somewhere between Fort Mcleod and Fernie.

The RCMP said the couple left Fort Mcleod at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and were due to return after 6 p.m. but family and friends have not heard from them since they left.

The RCMP are asking members of the public who reside in the rural areas of southern Alberta and South Eastern BC to watch for the Oosterwijks and their vehicle.

Jacob, 46 and Anja, 43, were traveling in a 1997 Dark Green Honda CRV with Alberta licence plate BCC7195.

Jacob is approximately 6'0" tall and of medium build.  He wears glasses, is bald with a close shaved beard, and was wearing blue jeans with a brown leather jacket and dark brown baseball cap with an unknown logo on it.

Anja is approximately 5'7" tall and of medium build. She also wears glasses, has short dark brown hair, and was wearing either blue jeans or a blue jean skirt with a dark blue 3/4 length winter coat.

There is a possibility they may have taken some side roads off of Highway 3 in the Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, Sparwood, and Fernie areas and become lost or stuck with recent snowfall in those areas.  There are no health related issues for either of these two individuals.  The two speak both English and Dutch and reside in the Fort Macleod area.

If anyone has any information pertaining to the Oosterwijks is asked to call the Fort Mcleod RCMP at 403-553-7200 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
