This weekend was Vantage Point's 2nd annual 'Sparwood Appreciation Days', which was in the eyes of many, a great success . Plenty of activities surrounded one of the many show homes in which this event was hosted. Families gathered together to enjoy a bouncy house, delicious food and many open houses for visitors to observe. “This event really started two summers ago when Paul Hebert's' son Keinan went missing.  We realized what potential Sparwood had when the community came together , and so the Sparwood Appreciation Day was born," says Vantage Point representative Tonda Redgwell.

Along with the event was the first ever 'Star of Sparwood' award.  This award was presented to a nominated community member, who makes a difference in Sparwood. "What better way to really pull a community together then to celebrate our multiple stars who make our town a better place," said Redgwell. Nominated were Renee MacCormack and Amy Cardozo and after an online Facebook poll which seen hundreds of voters MacCormack was named the star of Sparwood and was presented with a beautifully crafted glass award as well as a family trip for 4 to Fairmont Hot Springs.

After talking with Sparwoods 'Star' she had a few things to say about the community in which she stands proud for. When asked how she feels about being named the winner MacCormack replied, “I feel like I should have prepared a speech for this question, I just knew I would be asked this," she said with a chuckle. "Of course it is a great honor for someone to have nominated me and for so many people to support me and vote. It's a great honor knowing so many people appreciate the things I do for Sparwood." When the she was asked what the community meant to her, Renee answered “It's a community full of family and friends willing to help each other out."

The many guests spent the afternoon enjoying the rest of the summer weather and eating food made by the “pig roasting master” himself , Nathan Higgins . This dedicated chef prepared a pig in 24 hours, and was at the site at 1:00 am to start cooking . Anyone who tasted his creation would most definitely thank him for his contribution to this successful day.

Many more Sparwood Appreciation Days are planned for the future. And a special  thanks goes out to the abundant sponsors around the community, such as Overwaitea Foods , Kal-Tire , B-104 and The Drive as well as the Chamber Of Commerce .

As Tonda Redgwell from Vantage Point said “We will be in and around appreciating citizens for many years to come. Thank-you all for the marvelous day of appreciation towards our amazing community and a special big thanks to Vantage Point and of course our 'Star Of Sparwood'  Renee MacCormack . Keep making this community shine, you're doing a wonderful job of making Sparwood a better place to live."
