Community supports CSPS with Film Fest
Skiers and boarders packed the Fernie Community Centre on November 10 to gain inspiration for the coming snow season with three action packed movies. The 2012 Ski and Board Film Fest entertained the audience of all ages, while raising funds for the Canadian Ski Patrol System (CSPS) at the same time.
“I was pretty pumped to see the participation levels from everyone in our group, the sponsors, the suppliers, the donors and the public support we received,” said Tom Little, National Director of the CSPS. “I want to thank everyone for their support.”
CSPS members provide volunteer patrol services at both Fernie Alpine Resort and Elkford’s Wapiti Ski Hill. Last winter 33 CSPS volunteers put in 400 days of patrol services in the Elk Valley.
Several community sponsors, including Teck, The Guides Hut, Gear Hub, and Commit, allowed for tons of prizes and giveaways. Lucky guests walked away with everything from cat skiing and vacations, to snow apparel, boards, and skis.
Fernie Brewing Company was on hand to provide a selection of their latest beer. Fresh pizza and popcorn was also available, enhancing the experience for movie goers.
The evening wrapped up with the announcement of this year’s festival winners. Greg Stump took the title of Best Film with his big mountain skiing movie ‘Legend of Aahhh’s.’ ‘Further’, featuring snowboarder Jeremy Jones, was given the People’s Choice award.
