Sparwood sets policing priorities
The District of Sparwood is sharing what they feel the community’s top policing priorities are with the Elk Valley RCMP.
The RCMP are in the process of putting together the Elk Valley detachment’s Annual Performance Plan for 2013/2014, and turned to the District to identify the biggest policing issues within the community.
At a council meeting on March 4, mayor and council reviewed the three priorities they had set for the previous year: speed reduction and enforcement initiatives, drug enforcement, and underage drinking/bush parties. It was agreed that all three areas had seen improvement and were still relevant in Sparwood.
“I would like to make a motion that the 2012 policing priorities stand, as we have seen that they were working,” stated Councillor Joanne Wilton. “We have such a clear reduction in these areas.”
The District of Sparwood will recommend the RCMP continue to focus on last year’s priorities. They have also added a new priority that was brought up at the meeting, a focus on the community’s youth diversion program.
