All school trustees elected by acclamation

All the candidates for school trustee positions in the Elk Valley were officially declared elected by acclamation on Monday.

All the candidates for school trustee positions in the Elk Valley were officially declared elected by acclamation on Monday.

Hungry Baytaluke, who was a school trustee candidate in Sparwood, pulled out of the race last week, meaning every school trustee candidate in the region will be given the job without an election, as there are no competitor candidates running.

Baytaluke, who is running for councillor, said he pulled out after realising there would be a conflict between the two positions.

“I should have checked before putting myself forward, but I realised after looking into it more that most of the school board meetings are on a Monday night, when I would be attending council meetings as a councillor.”

The announcement was made on Monday that Frank Lento will represent Fernie and part of RDEK Area A, Bev Bellina will represent Sparwood and part of RDEK Area A, Curtis Helgesen will represent Elkford and part of RDEK Area A, and Shaun Damstrom will represent RDEK Area B.

There will still be an election for the five seats representing Cranbrook and Area C.
