On April 5, Canadian Pacific Rail (CPR)announced it was relocating 73 locomotive engineers and conductors from the Cranbrook/Fort Steele area to a new crew base at Sparwood.

The relocation is currently planned for early May.

All employees affected by this move are being offered relocation assistance. There is no net job reduction, and all workers will be able to exercise their seniority at the Sparwood terminal.

Once the move is complete, 55 engineer and conductor positions will remain in the Cranbrook/Fort Steele area.

“CPR is making this move because we must adjust to changing business conditions so as to efficiently serve our customers,” said Salem Woodrow of CPR’s Public Affairs and Communications department. “We are committed to dealing fairly with our employees that are affected by this relocation.”
