Elkford restaurant catches fire

Crews responded to the Sunrise restaurant around 6 a.m. and put out the fire which was contained to the kitchen.

A fire broke out at the Sunrise restaurant in Elkford around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The fire started in the ceiling, said Bernie Van Tighem, director, Fire Rescue and Emergency Services for the city of Elkford.

Fire crews responded and contained the fire to the kitchen area.

There were no reported injuries. The extent of the damage will not be known until the Elkford Fire Department can go in and assess the restaurant.

The cause of the fire has not been determined as the investigation is still underway.

Van Tighem said with the origin of the fire being the ceiling, it may point to an electrical issue, however, he said he could not rule anything out at this point.
