Tonight, the group that oversees environmental monitoring programs at Teck’s five steelmaking coal mines in the Elk Valley will host its annual public meeting in Elkford.

The Environmental Monitoring Committee (EMC) was created as a requirement of Permit 107617 issued under the Environmental Management Act.

It’s made up of representatives from the B.C. Government, Ktunaxa Nation Council, Teck and an independent scientist, who provide technical input and advice on environmental programs required by Permit 107517.

At the EMC’s fourth annual public meeting, members of the public can learn more about these programs and the data collected in the region.

They will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the work that has been completed in the past year.

The meeting will be held in Teck Hall at the Elkford Community Conference Centre, 750 Fording Drive, from 6 p.m. tonight.

There will be an open house poster session with opportunities for one-on-one dialogue with EMC members from 6-7:30 p.m. followed by a Q&A session with all committee members from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Refreshments and hard copies of the 2018 EMC Public Report will be provided. You can also read the report online.
