Long-standing resident and committed volunteer Jamie Robertson has been designated Elkford’s 2024 Citizen of the Year.

Robertson is known for her dedicated work within the community, particularly her passion for helping youth. She is president of the Elkford Curling Centre and coaches junior curling athletes, and is vice chair of Elkford Secondary School Parent Advisory Council, where she works to promote school-related activities and initiatives.

As a member of Youth Action Network Commission, she advocates for local youth and helps provide them with opportunities. She coaches girls’ volleyball at Rocky Mountain Elementary School.

In 2024, she was part of Elkford Secondary School fundraiser Rock-a-Rama.

“Jamie has dedicated countless hours to the organizations, teams and clubs that make Elkford such a wonderful place to live and she never stops advocating for others to do the same. She’s both an exemplary individual and citizen, and it’s truly an honour to congratulate her on being named the 2024 Citizen of the Year,” said Mayor Steve Fairbairn.

Robertson said her family inspires her to lend an helping hand to local youth and give back. She has been involved in most activities and groups her three children have been involved in.

“One of my biggest motivators is showing my children the importance of being involved in their community. I want them to understand that we don’t always need something in return for our hard work — that if we truly care about something or enjoy it, helping it succeed so that other can enjoy it too is payment enough.”

Robertson said her family loves the multitude of outdoor sports the municipality has to offer, as well as its wonderful public library and pristine golf course, that are all maintained by a team of dedicated volunteers.

“Elkford has the most incredible network for passionate caring volunteers. Our reasons for getting involved initially are all different, but nobody is in it for the recognition,” she added.

“Ultimately, we’re all volunteering because we love the groups that we’re supporting, we want them to succeed and we want to ensure that these opportunities continue to exist for future generations. So if you’ve been thinking about getting involved, please do. There are so many ways for you to help.”
