At its July meeting, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board awarded $1,000 to the Fernie Youth Soccer Association through the Electoral Area A Discretionary Grants-in-Aid (DGIA) program.
The funds will be used for the Eirin Amundsen Memorial Pavilion, which will be a multi-use field house at Max Turyk Community Centre.
The project is anticipated to cost over $300,000 minus in-kind donations from different suppliers and contractors.
The Eirin Amundsen Memorial Pavilion Committee had originally intended to break ground this summer to complete the project in time for the 2017 soccer season but construction might be delayed until spring 2018 because of fundraising issues.
