Elk Valley RCMP have fined a Sparwood man $1150.00 under the Wildfire Act, for lighting fireworks in a restricted area.

Police were called to a mobile home park after other residents complained about hearing gunshots nearby.

When RCMP arrived, they discovered a large fire at a home, with which the residents were lighting fireworks.

The owner initially denied lighting off any fireworks, but as RCMP queried them, more fireworks went off inside the fire.

While many fire bans and restrictions have been lifted for the Elk Valley, fireworks, as well as class two and three fires are still restricted in some places.
