A house in Yahk has suffered severe damage after a fire on April 20.

According to Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Fire Chief David Zayonce, the fire started at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, and the structure was fully ablaze by the time firefighters arrived on scene.

Witnesses, who were drawn to the house due to thick black smoke that was visible in the sky, said they watched as the fire engulfed the entire structure and some trees on the property, and tore it to the ground.

Zayonce reported that RDCK firefighters and a five-person Creston Fire Rescue crew managed to extinguish the blaze.

He said no one was injured and everyone made it out safely.

The incident is currently under investigation.
