Angelo Schianni

June 10, 1929 - October 17, 2017

Angelo was born on June 10, 1929 in Fernie, BC to Maria and Luigi Schianni. He went back to God October 17, 2017. He had one sister, Dalia, all predeceased him.

He was Betty's best friend and hero - they were married almost 60 years.

What a better name could be found for him "Angel" plus O, oh, oh, something has to be fixed or done, and he did it.

He was a meat cutter at Maffioli Meat Market and then maintenance supervisor and Shell Resources and some of those "many things" Angelo did was: to make miniature Christmas trees, all decorated for friends, family and the church. In fact, he was very instrumental in decorating the church at Christmas, Easter and other special celebrations.

He also trained altar servers and eucharistic ministers, one of his passions was having nice cars and taking good care of them, and they always had a full tank of gas, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years, he rang the church bell many times when it was needed. Angelo was surely a pillar of the church and community and many times the phone rang for Angelo to cut meat for many clubs, including the Legion and to do other community work and to drive anyone wherever they wanted to go. He never said "No" to anybody.

But most important of all was the day they were called by the Catholic Children's Aid Society that their son "Alan", was born and they could have him. Alan considers himself so fortunate to have Betty and Angelo for his parents.

Angelo loved playing with his grandchildren and was so proud of Ashley and Tristan. In fact, all kids came running to Angelo to play.

Angelo and Betty are great friends of Bishop Eugene Cooney and all of the Pastors of St. Mary's and always worked and gave generously to support their church.

They were both extremely grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital and especially Dr. McBeath for their loving care and thanks to all of the visitors who have supported us during our loss.

His gentle personality attracted us all and we will always remember him.

A Memorial Mass was held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Holy Family Catholic Church with Father David John Officiating.
