Joseph Peter Rinaldi

August 26, 1923 – November 3, 2016

Passed away peacefully on Thursday November 3rd in Kamloops B.C.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Maureen (nee Caufield).

Mourning his loss are children Peter Rinaldi of Kamloops, Carol Lattey (Steven) of Vernon, Janice Hume (Ken) of Calgary and Susanne Johnson (Greg) of Elko.

Also survived by grandchildren Erin Thompson (Brian) of Calgary, Matthew Thompson of Calgary, Katie Hume of Calgary, Jasmine Rinaldi (David) of Nanaimo, Brodie Rinaldi (Justine) of Kamloops and their daughters (great granddaughters) Madeline and Zoe.

Dad is also survived by his brother-in-law Peter Caufield and his wife Jannice of Fernie, sister Lillian Ingham of Creston and many nieces and nephews.

Dad was born in Rossland B.C. and the family moved to Fernie in 1939. He joined the RCAF in 1940 (at the age of 17!) and served until the end of the war. After the war he took advantage of the Veteran’s Bill and graduated with his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1951. He went on to practice law in Vancouver and Prince George, and in 1978 was one of the first graduates of the MBA program at Simon Fraser University. He subsequently went on to a career with the Federal Government until his retirement in 1988.

Dad loved fishing and the tales of the times he spent at Carp Lake in Northern B.C. with Peter, his nephews and fishing buddies were legendary! He also loved to travel – he and Mom were in Honolulu when Hawaii was granted statehood in 1959; the first of many trips to the Islands.

They travelled to Europe twice after his retirement and they spent many happy winters in Thousand Palms, Rancho Mirage, California. Dad stayed active until the end. He enjoyed visiting with family, watching hockey games and swimming at the YMCA in Kamloops. He was also very generous with legal advice! He will always be missed and always in our hearts.

Funeral Mass to be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Fernie at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14th with Father David officiating. Luncheon to follow in the Church Rectory. Private interment. No flowers by request.
