Joyce Halladay

May 10, 1935 - October 8, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Eileen Halladay who peacefully and valiantly succumbed to her illness within the comforts of her own home and surrounded by loving family on October 8, 2017.  She was blessed with 82 years of a full and cherished life.

Born on May 10, 1935 to proud parents, William and Margaret Goulding in Pelly, Saskatchewan, she was the fifth of twelve children.  Joyce was raised with a respect for family, community and an earnest work ethic.  She blossomed into a lovely and graceful young lady who captured the heart of a dashing young gentleman, Gerald Halladay, and they pledged their love for one another in holy matrimony on April 8, 1960 in Yorkton, SK and through their devotion celebrated fifty-one years of marriage and the blessings of four children.

Joyce had many passions and hobbies including camping trips with Gerald, tree hunting and bonfires, curling, cross-country skiing, teaching aerobics, organizing the first female hockey team in Sparwood and, most especially, music.

Music was always prevalent in the Halladay home and Joyce was especially talented at the piano.  She had the opportunity to play in a band throughout her younger years and continued to play for her family and her own pleasure right up to her final day - a moment we will treasure forever.

She will also be fondly remembered for her love of gardening: her yard was a gathering place for family and friends from all over to enjoy a game of lawn darts, good food, Christmas baking in August, hugs and laughter and the abundant hospitality of the Halladay acreage.

Her love was unconditional, her blessings and joys numerous and her beautiful memory eternal.

She is survived by her loving children, Barbara (Brenda Pennington) Halladay of Lethbridge, Vern (Roberta) Halladay of Lethbridge, Kelly (Bonnie Lawrence) Halladay of Sparwood and Terry (Janet) Halladay of Sparwood; her precious grandchildren, Jordan (Chelsea) Halladay and Jacob Halladay; her cherished great grandchildren, Alexis and Piper; six siblings, Ron (Barb), Terry (Donna), Barb (Don), Linda (Maurice), Bryan (Linda) and Greg; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family as well as the many friends she made throughout her lifetime.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald Halladay in 2011 and five siblings, Lawrence, Merle, Audrey, Bev and Delbert.

A Celebration of Joyce's life will be held later in the spring when her garden is in full bloom.  Details will be announced at a later date.
