July 6, 1943-June 22, 2016

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Lila White of Elkford, BC. Lila passed away on Wednesday June 22, 2016 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC at the age of 72 years old.

Lila was born on July 6, 1943 in Manitou, Manitoba to parents Ewald and Dorothy (Fishbrook) Lechner. She was the youngest of 3 children and enjoyed life growing up on the farm. Lila moved to Price George, BC in 1963 to work in retail and fell in love with the mountains. It was in Prince George in 1969 when she met the love of her life Larry. They fell in love and were married on March 28, 1970. Larry and Lila welcomed their first son Dean into the world on April 29, 1971. Their second bundle of joy Clayton arrived on June 28, 1976. They moved around the Kootenays a few times before making Elkford their family’s permanent home in 1981. Larry and Lila settled into the community and raised their family there. Lila was thrilled with her million-dollar view.

Lila worked part time outside the home for some years and took on plenty of childcare opportunities for other families in the community. Lila was a devoted wife and mother. She worked hard around the home and spent many hours baking, canning, crocheting, sewing and gardening. Lila enjoyed her little dog “Princess” and loved to camp. She was a lovely warm hearted lady who had a great sense of humour and a contagious laugh. Lila was humble, reliable and incredibly thrifty. She was so proud of her amazing sons. Lila loved to be a grandma and cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren.

Lila is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years Larry, her two sons, Dean and Clayton (Tiffany) her grandchildren Carmyn and Tydan, her sister Bernice Schultz, her brother Walter Lechner, her nephew Lorne (Sharon) Schultz and family, her nephew Glenn (Debbie) Schultz and family, her niece Diana Schultz and family. Lila was predeceased by her parents Ewald and Dorothy Lechner and her brother-in-law Alan Schultz.
