Mavis Rita Yvonne KICHLER

April 21, 2016

Mavis Rita Yvonne Kichler passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 21st, 2016 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Mavis was born on September, 22nd 1933 in Prairie River, Saskatchewan, the second child of Beatrice and Arthur Taillefer. Beloved mother, Nanny, Great Nanny, Sister, and Aunt, she was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Joe (2001) and her brother Arnie Taillefer (2015). Mavis is survived by her children: Karen Mitchell, Deb (Kim) Sedrovic, and Joe (Kathy) Kichler, her grandchildren: Stacey (Andy), Devon, Chelsea, Cori (Josh), Travis, and Holly, her great grandchildren: Jackson, Aria, and Aiden, and her siblings: Clarence (Sheila), Ed (Judy), Marlene, Carol (Stu), her sister-in-law Glee, and her brother-in-law Rudy Kichler as well as many nieces and nephews.

After farming in Saskatchewan, her family moved to British Columbia where Mavis attended school, and eventually pursued a degree in Psychiatric nursing. After being swept off her feet at a dance by Joe Kichler, they were married and started their family in Haney (Maple Ridge) in 1955. In 1971 the Kichlers moved to Fernie where they raised their family and started many small business ventures to satisfy their entrepreneurial spirits.

Mavis’ number one passion was her family, and she was always up for an adventure with them. Whether it be camping, trips to Mexico, playing crib, trips the park, visits to Disneyland, parasailing, snowmobiling, air boarding or endless family dinners, she never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. A close second was travel. Mavis got the travel bug very young, and visited many exotic, and interesting places in her 82 years: Hawaii, Mexico, Ireland, the Bahamas, Alaska, Spain, Italy, Newfoundland, China, most of Canada, and many places in the US. We have to imagine that if she had one regret- it was that she didn’t see it all!

A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, April 26th at Cherished Memories “Serenity Chapel” in Fernie. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
