January 23, 2017

Queenie Reta Smith passed away peacefully and comfortably under the excellent care of the Hospice group, Dr. Forrest and the wonderful supportive nursing staff of the Elk Valley Hospital January 23, 2017 at the age of 100.

Born on a farm near Glidden Saskatchewan in 1916, Queenie enjoyed drawing, gardening, journaling and crafting. Queenie studied pottery and ceramics and was an accomplished pottery teacher and a moving force in the Moose Jaw Art Guild, as well as an award-winning photographer. When it came to her crafts, Queenie could do it all.

Known for her athletic ability in many sports, including swimming and tennis, she excelled in basketball, and continued to do yoga throughout her life.

Queenie was a very polished, respected and popular lady.

Last year celebrating her 100th birthday, Queenie was thrilled to receive congratulations from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Governor General, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, John Horgan and many others.

Predeceased by her husband Wally in 1985, Queenie will be sadly missed by her four daughters Nola (Jim) Keay, Cathy (Ron) Smith-Clark, Cindy Lane (Dale) Mierau and Dala (Jerry) Konihowski and their families.

Queenie’s family will be having a Celebration of Life for her in the springtime in Queenie’s home town of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

In living memory of Queenie, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
