Editorial Free Press Elk Valley
This week, like many, reminded me of why I love what I do. Being able to interview four gold medal winners, all seniors, and all from Sparwood and Elkford was amazing. Each and every one them was humble, happy and in better shape than myself and many people I know. I think that being a senior who is active, full of life and enjoying a healthy lifestyle is what everyone hopes their senior years will be. I believe they are incredible for representing the Elk Valley and for the example they set, not only for those fifty five and older, but to everyone. To find a hobby that lends to physical activity is so important. They prove that whether it be horseshoes, golf or swimming that this is possible. Each of them encourages their peers to take part, have fun, and join them in next year’s BC Senior Games. Congratulations, Wilf, Pat, Gunnar and Chris. You should be proud!
And for myself, I love nothing more than walking away from an interview or story, knowing I am the lucky one to be able to meet the exceptional and inspiring people that live here, being fully aware that their story will encourage others and bring a smile to the face of many readers. It is a fact that good communication within a community or communities makes them stronger, more informed and educated, and that is why my motto has always been, “Dedicated to communicating with the community.” To be able to bring residents of the Elk Valley valuable news and motivating stories is great, but the best bonus of all is the amount I have learned, experienced and been a part of because of it.
As always, I welcome residents of Sparwood and Elkford to let me help you share your story, event, ideas and information. I extend a big thank you to Black Rock News readers who never fail to let me know their appreciation for our local news and to Fernie residents for warmly welcoming Black Rock News as an addition into the Free Press.
