Slag campaigns lose votes
I am a 32 year old Canadian male and I have voted in every election in which I was an electorate because I could, period. As we begin the 38-day campaign to this latest election I am wishing there would be a ‘none of the above’ box for me to mark my x in. The reason for this is: 1. slag campaigning disgusts me and insults my intelligence, and 2. I’m tired of false ‘politician speak’.
Negative ads have been around a long time but recently seem to air more frequently. Each of the parties have multiple prepared ads and are more unpersuasive than ever. It is possible to speak about your opponent without making them seem like some villain from a DC comic book.
All the party leaders untruthfully claim to be the ‘only one’ who is interested in average Canadians as opposed to their opponents who are power hungry vote seekers. I say BS. Could it be possible for a party leader to truthfully speak in their own words about what they think about the actual issues without using some sort of soft TV voice and words created to disguise meaning? This is not some sort of ‘Parliament Hills’ reality show. It’s not entertainment. This is about how our country is run. Go and vote.
