Elkford Chamber hosts Business Excellence Awards

Awards were given to community businesses, non-profits and volunteers

Elkford Chamber of Commerce handed out the 2023 Elkford Business Excellence Award on Oct. 21 at the local community centre.

Volunteers, organizations, and businesses that add to the municipality’s vibrancy were recognized through an official ceremony and gala.

Community

Shawna Bryant was the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award. Bryant is a councillor for the District of Elkford. She runs workshops for local youth at Elkford Secondary School and helps them with their resume writing.

According to a press release sumbitted by chamber executive director Alyssa Burgoyne, Shawna “Is always willing to step in and has a vibrant personality that pulls others in and encourages community support.”

Elkford Trail Alliance was awarded Non-Profit of the Year. ETA cares for the community’s non-motorized trail network, building new trails and assisting with upkeep of pre-existing paths.

The press release stated that president Colin Standish lends a helping hand whenever he can.

“He is so committed and spends a lot of his free time working on the not so fun stuff … He helps out in other community events and is always willing to volunteer.”

Business

Re/Max was given the Business of the Year Award. Burgoyne mentioned that realtors Crystal Tennant and Stephanie Kniert are well known for their excellent customer service and generosity.

“These girls do an amazing job and always put their client first … They are both very strong hard-working women who are well loved by the community,” the press release stated.

Summit Osteopathy received the Small Business of the Year Award. Summit, run by Amanda Mori, is known for its diverse range of services and for its easy booking process.

“Amanda has established an excellent professionally run business. She has incredible knowledge and has a very flexible schedule.”

Precision Arc Industries was the recipient of the Industrial Business of the Year Award. Precision is a welding and machine shop that offers services to heavy equipment contractors, the local mining industry and the general public.

“I don’t know anyone that isn’t in awe of Chris Duthie’s business and work. Precision Arc is the definition of what a successful small industrial business is. The Duthies have build a phenomenal reputation from the ground up.”

Chevron Gas was given the Customer Service Award for its hard working staff and top-notch customer service.

“The family that owns this business goes above and beyond and are an excellent contributor to our community … They are very polite and helpful and always have a big smile on their faces when you walk in.”
