International literacy day took on a sports theme at Fernie Heritage Library. Visitors and staff were celebrating the choice of Fernie author Angie Abdou’s novel The Bone Cage as the focus of One Book One Kootenay, a region-wide book club which encourages readers to read and discuss one book.
Kids were digging and spiking at Fernie Secondary School when they took part in a volleyball camp. The camp was open to all kids entering grades six to 12. The men’s head coach from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, Pat Hennelly, put the 72 kids through their paces with different drills teaching them to pass, hit and dive.
Fernie Community EcoGarden discovered this year it is possible to grow wheat, barley and rye in a mountain climate.
