The Elk Valley Dolphins Swim Club hosted an unofficial fun meet at the Fernie Aquatic centre on the weekend.

There were 37 swimmers from Cranbrook, Elkford, Fernie, and Sparwood that participated on Saturday.

The meet was designed to introduce some of the new swimmers to competitive swimming by mixing them with experienced swimmers.

The relaxed atmosphere allows many swimmers to get past their nerves and put in great races.

Many volunteers helped set up, time the races, judge the strokes and turns, get swimmers ready to start, referee and marshal.

Some remarkable accomplishments for the eight and under age group included Sara Lewis with five firsts, Simon Bloemink with four firsts, Cheyenne Lee with two firsts, and Scarlet Guy with one first. In the nine to 10-year-old group, Cynthia Kielpinski swam away with six firsts. Neve Richards, Astrid Bloemink, Mac Dressler and Jace Lee all came home with two firsts. In the 11 to 12 age group, Sarah Munro had five firsts, Rudra Joshi took four firsts, and Fynley Kuijt took away one first.
