Riders topple Rockies

By Matt Laurin

Connor Lowe-Wylde wasted little time before making an impact with the Fernie Ghostriders.

Making his debut in a Riders uniform after joining the team earlier this week, Lowe-Wylde scored sixteen seconds into overtime to give Fernie a 3 – 2 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies on Tuesday night.

The two points are huge for the Riders, who find themselves in a tie with the Golden Rockets heading into a crucial home and home series against Kimberley this weekend.

Breaden Monk opened the scoring for the Riders late in the first period, before his former line mate Brendan Burge tied the game a few minutes later. Stephen Pratt gave the Rockies their only lead of the night with just two seconds left in the period.

Derek Georgopoulos responded for the Riders midway through the second, with his 12th goal of the season.

The Riders continued to pressure in the third, outshooting the home team 19 – 10, but could not solve Rockies goaltender Stewart Pratt.

Lowe-Wylde’s game winner in the first minute of overtime made for a happy bus ride home.

The Riders will renew hostilities with the Kimberley Dynamiters on Friday at Fernie Memorial Arena. As always, puck drops at 7:30.
