Abi Moore and Murray Pask showcased four Fernie Brewing Company beers including the new 'Project 9 Pilsner' which took the People's Choice Award at the Okanagan Fest of Ale!

Fernie Brewing Company's (FBC) newest brew was tasted at First Friday at Park Place Lodge (PPL).

On the first Friday of the month there are complementary samplings from the PPL menu paired with tastings from regional wine, beer and spirits purveyors.

FBC's newest can was launched this April, affectionately named Project 9 Pils, after a fun mountain biking trail in West Fernie bordering Mt. Fernie Provincial Park.

“We like keeping our names true to Fernie, its history, legends, associations or in this case, trails,” said Abi Moore. “It’s a popular trail, built by local Fernie bikers, and as a Pilsner is a perfect post-bike beer, it seemed fitting. And rhymed!

Based on the Nelson brothers who built the trail, Ryland, and red-haired Luke, the legend on the can reads:

“Legend has it, two local brothers grew Project 9 from an overgrown road to one of Fernie's most infamous bike trails. Strewn with rocks and steeped in history, if you’re lucky you'll see the legend biker flash by, wheels turning, red hair flying.”

Fernie Brewing Co. describes Project 9 Pilsner as a “true Bavarian Pilsner with exceptional continental hop flavour that can only be achieved by a selection of fine noble hops including the Saaz variety. The use of Munich, Pilsner and Pale western Canadian malts and time honoured brewing methods produces a clean, crisp Bavarian Pilsner that is truly transcendent. Great with spicy foods, or a variety of cheeses.”
