Sparwood businesses honoured

On October 18, the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce honoured several businesses and individuals with awards, recognizing them for their hard work and dedication.

The 2018 Sparwood Business Awards attracted close to 65 entries from businesses around the district, with eight winners chosen by the public.

The Industry Business Award was awarded to Komatsu Mining Corp, while the Not for Profit Award went to the Elk Valley Thrift Shop Society.

Putters Grill Concessions was recognized for outstanding customer service and the Sparwood Fire Department for community spirit.

Thisthatandmore Lotto received the New Business Award, while the Retail Business Award went to Sparwood Remedy’sRx.

Former Sparwood Mayor Cal McDougall was named Citizen of the Year.

Last but not least, the 2018 Business Scarecrow Competition was awarded to Sparwood Chiropractic and Wellness.

Twenty-three scarecrows were entered with all money raised going to the Spookwood! Halloween event on October 31 in Sparwood.

About 70 people attended the awards night where these businesses were presented with their awards.

Sparwood Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Beverly MacNaughton said that honouring local businesses is extremely important.

“We don’t have a lot of businesses in Sparwood, so we need to celebrate them and support them as much as we can,” she said.
