There have been several reports of grizzly bears throughout Elkford. The family of three bears is actually brown-colored black bears, which could be easily mistaken as grizzlies. The difference can be identified by the shape of the ears and the snout.
Residents are asked to help keep neighbourhoods safe for bears and people by doing the following: keep garbage indoors until collection day; pick all ripe fruit and take it to the transfer station; make properties bear-proof; and encourage for neighbours, family and friends to do the same.
