Locals were invited to join the Overwaitea Foods staff on July 3 as they celebrated the stores 100th anniversary with dancing, prizes, hot dogs and ice cream.

“It’s a big event celebrating our rich history,” Overwaitea store manager Mark Lento said.

Hot dogs and pop were available by donation, with all the proceeds going towards Fernie’s Friend for Friends charity. Overwaitea donated all of the food and drinks for the barbeque.

“We’re such a local part of our community and that’s what we pride ourselves in, being a local supporter and a community event supporter,” Lento said. “We try our best to be involved in everything that is Fernie.”

In addition to a free barbeque, the Creative Energy Arts Factory also danced around the Overwaitea lot, showcasing their moves before they head to Disneyland this summer, where they will dance for Disney’s 50th Diamond Anniversary parade.

“They did a fantastic job,” Lento said of the group.

A historic Overwaitea truck was also displayed out front. The truck will be on display at all of the Overwaitea locations throughout B.C.
