Crime in the Elk Valley Thursday, January 13

• In Sparwood at 1:58 a.m. there was a complaint that an individual from Blairmore was making threats against some locals. The matter is still under investigation. The subjects are known to each other.

• In Roosville at 2:35 a.m. a semi-tractor unit hit and killed a horse. There was some damage to the truck, but there were no injuries.

• In Sparwood at 5:57 a.m. there was a false business alarm.

• In Sparwood at 9:05 a.m. there was a false business alarm.

• In Fernie at 10:15 a.m. there was drug information received.

• In Fernie at 2:24 p.m. an individual called to say that they had received threats the day before.

• In Sparwood at 5:45 p.m. a truck had been vandalized over the past few days. The driver wasn’t sure where it happened but had noticed there were scratches that appeared to have been made with a key.

• In Fernie at 6:47 p.m. there was a single-vehicle accident. There were no injuries.

• In West Fernie at 9:48 p.m. there was a request from the Fernie Alpine Resort to help with traffic control. The resort was sanding some roads and vehicles were getting backed up.

• In Fernie at 10:21 p.m. there was a two-vehicle car accident. No one was injured but the cars were blocking the road. Police said that icy roads were to blame for the accident.

• In Sparwood at 11:51 p.m. there was a noisy dog barking continually. The complainant asked for police to attend.

• In Fernie at 10:30 p.m. there was a report of an erratic driver. A white semi-tractor unit was driving too fast for the conditions. The driver was also passing when it was unsafe and crossing the centre line. The truck was pulled over by the police and the driver was given a violation for driving too fast given the road conditions.

Friday, January 14

• In Sparwood at 8:05 a.m. there was a single vehicle accident. A car hit a patch of black ice and slipped off the right side of the road. The car was resting partially on the railway tracks. There were no injuries and minimal damage to the vehicle.

• In Sparwood at 10:56 a.m. a semi-tractor unit was parked on the side of the road, but didn’t pull over enough. The caller was concerned that it may be a hazard to other vehicles because of the road conditions.

• In Hosmer at 11:04 a.m. there was a single vehicle accident. The car slid off the road. One person suffered minor injuries.

• In Elko at 11:05 a.m. there was a report of lost licence plates.

• In Fernie at 11:08 a.m. someone attempted to break into a garage.

• In Fernie at 11:37 a.m. there was a hit and run accident. The vehicle had damage to the drivers-side bumper and taillight.

• In Fernie at 11:57 a.m. there were threats made on Facebook.

• In Sparwood at 12:02 p.m. Kimberley RCMP asked that local police get a witness statement from someone living in the Elk Valley.

• In Galloway at 2:53 p.m. there was a semi-tractor unit driving erratically. The driver was passing on double solid lines and cut-off the caller. The complainant has requested that charges be laid.

• In Sparwood at 4:25 p.m. there was a single vehicle accident. The car rolled off the road and into the ditch. The driver was taken to the Elk Valley hospital and was released with minor injuries.

• In Sparwood at 8:34 p.m. police were called to dispatch an injured deer.

• In Fernie at 8:36 p.m. police issued a three-day driving prohibition.

• In Fernie at 8:38 p.m. Ontario provincial police asked local RCMP to contact an individual living in the Elk Valley regarding a family emergency.

Saturday, January 15

• In Fernie at 1:06 a.m. there was a large fight outside a local liquor establishment. When police arrived on the scene the fight was over and all the suspects had dispersed.

• In Fernie at 2:16 a.m. there was a loud party on Ridgemont Avenue.

• In Fernie at 2:18 a.m. there were two possible impaired drivers. Police patrolled but were unable to locate the vehicles.

• In Fernie at 2:50 a.m. there was a request for a B.C. ambulance to attend to an intoxicated patient.

• In Fernie at 2:54 a.m. police issued a 24-hour driving suspension.

• In Fernie at 2:55 a.m. there was a fight outside a local business. Police attended but just before they arrived, the suspects drove off in a black Chevy truck. Police patrolled but were unable to locate the suspects.

• In Fernie at 3:51 a.m. there was a false business alarm.

• In Fernie at 8:35 a.m. there was an erratic driver in a tan Silverado with Alberta plates. The complainant said that the driver was speeding up and then slowing down and wouldn’t allow him to pass.

• In Fernie at 12:55 p.m. there was a car parked, without licence plates, outside of the caller’s house for three days. The caller requested police assistance.

• In Baynes Lake at 4:14 p.m. there was a blue 2007 Polaris 500 Sportsmen ATV stolen from a shed.

• In Sparwood at 10:21 p.m. there was a loud party on Industrial Road One.

• In Fernie at 11:46 p.m. an intoxicated male was kicked out of a liquor establishment. The man kept trying to get back in after he’d been removed. Police assistance was requested.

Sunday, January 16

• In Fernie at 12:51 a.m. there was a loud party on Sixth Avenue.

• In Fernie at 1 a.m. there were two semi-trailer units parked on the highway in front of the Tim Horton’s. The caller was concerned that the trucks were causing a traffic hazard.

• In Fernie at 3:24 p.m. there was a hit and run accident. The owner came out of his house to find that the driver’s side window had been smashed, the driver’s side mirror was missing and there was other damage to the body of the car.

• In Sparwood at 3:44 p.m. a driver called to report a large hole in Corbin Road. The person said that the hole was full of water and causing damage to vehicles.

• In Sparwood at 5:52 p.m. a wallet and iPod was stolen.

• In Sparwood at 8 p.m. a car had pulled over to change a tire, but a passerby was concerned for traffic safety. The caller requested that RCMP attend to help monitor traffic safety.

• In Fernie at 8:33 p.m. there was a rockslide into the Elko tunnel that was partially blocking a lane.

Monday, January 17

• In Sparwood at 9 a.m. there was a single vehicle accident east of Sparwood. The vehicle lost control on the ice and slid off the road and rolled on to its roof. There were four occupants in the vehicle but there were no injuries.

Monday, January 17

• In Fernie at 2:33 p.m. a small red pick-up truck was reported to be pulling kids around on the ice. The caller was concerned about the safety of the kids.

• In Fernie at 1:54 p.m. there was a false business alarm.

• In Sparwood at 3:38 p.m. a black and white, 2007 Ski-Doo summit snow machine was stolen. The Ski-Doo had become stuck near Corbin Road. They attempted to get it out but were unsuccessful. When the owner returned the Ski-Doo was gone.

• In Hosmer at 3:52 p.m. there was a grey Suburban with Alberta plates speeding and passing on double solid lines. RCMP patrolled but was unable to locate the vehicle.

• In Elkford at 8:06 p.m. there was a report of threats.

• In Sparwood there was a hit and run accident. The owner found scratches on their black Chevy pick-up truck.

• In Fernie at 10:25 p.m. there was a bottle of Fireball whisky stolen from a local liquor establishment. After reviewing surveillance RCMP was able to identify suspects and they are pursuing charges.

• In Sparwood at 11:52 p.m. there was a single vehicle rollover. Police attended the accident and found that the driver was intoxicated. The RCMP issued a 90-day roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30-days. There were three occupants but no one had been injured.

Tuesday, January 18

• In Sparwood at 12:41 a.m. police were called to dispatch an injured deer.

• In Fernie at 5:19 a.m. there was a loud party on Fifth Avenue.

• In Sparwood at 6:35 a.m. there was a false business alarm.

• In Sparwood at 6:49 a.m. there was a false business alarm.

• In Sparwood at 8:14 a.m. a truck was parked near a crosswalk. The caller was concerned that the truck was a hazard to kids and buses dropping kids off at school.

• In Fernie at 11:59 a.m. there was a hit and run accident at Park Place Lodge. The accident originally happened on January 13; the owner was calling in for insurance purposes.

• In Elkford at 1:51 p.m. an individual was arrested on warrants out of Alberta. The person is being held in custody and will be escorted back to Alberta.

• In West Fernie at 2:44 p.m. there was an erratic driver in a black Ford pick up truck with B.C. plates. The driver was speeding, passing unsafely and forcing vehicles on to the shoulder. Police patrolled but were unable to find the truck.

• In Elkford at 3:03 p.m. there was drug information received.

• In Fernie at 3:08 p.m. there was a report of a lost wallet.

• In Sparwood at 8:46 p.m. there was a two-vehicle accident. The accident was minor but the argument between the drivers was getting heated. There was a request for police assistance.

• In Sparwood at 9:34 p.m. police were asked to check on the well being of an individual. The police checked on the person and all was well.

• In Fernie at 10:40 p.m. police received a report of a missing person. The mom knew where the girl was, and police went and picked her up.

Wednesday, January 19

• In Fernie at 2:16 a.m. there was an intoxicated man in a local business. Police were asked to help remove the man.

• In Elkford at 10:19 a.m. there was a report of a domestic dispute.

• In Sparwood at 11:09 a.m. a local hotel asked police to help remove an unwanted guest.

• In Sparwood at 5:17 p.m. there was a black Dodge pick-up truck being driven erratically. The driver was speeding and passing other vehicles. No plates were obtained and the patrol for the vehicle was negative.

• In Fernie at 5:29 p.m. a woman was wandering down the highway. The caller felt that it was dangerous because the woman was walking too close to the highway. Police patrols were made but they were unable to locate the girl.

• In Elkford at 8:58 p.m. there was an assault.

• In Fernie at 9:10 p.m. there was a domestic dispute.

• In Elkford at 10:16 p.m. there were some youths drinking near the recreational centre. RCMP attended and patrolled but didn’t locate the individuals.
