Local Gayle Taylor was nominated volunteer of the year by Community Futures East Kootenay.

At the end of November, Community Futures East Kootenay (CFEK) — an organization that promotes economic development and the creation of jobs through small business start-up loans — announced that Fernie local Gayle Taylor had been nominated volunteer of the year.

“Gayle was a very dedicated and consistent board member,” CFEK Chair Mike Guarney said of the recently retired volunteer. “She’s very well informed and brought current information about what was going on in Fernie.”

He went on to say, “Her enthusiasm of representing the Fernie business community [was outstanding].”

The CFEK Director worked for the region of Fernie for 14 years before retiring at this year’s annual general meeting (AGM).

“She’s an awesome lady,” Guarney said. “She’s an appropriate ambassador for Fernie.”

Despite over a decade of commitment to CFEK, Taylor said she was not expecting this recognition.

“This was a total surprise,” she noted. “It’s a very rewarding position to be in and I really enjoyed it.”

Director André Labine has since replaced Taylor.
