All the Burns Night traditions were celebrated at the Fernie Museum on Saturday night.
The Fernie Heritage Society hosted the event for the second time, and Society President Laura Nelson hopes to carry on the annual tradition for many years to come.
“It was a great night, but the numbers were down a bit from last year,” she said.
Nelson said that there were about 70 people at the museum and that everyone had a lot of fun.
The evening included the piping in of the haggis and Helen Milligan read the Entrance of the Haggis by Robert Burns.
There was music by the Pickled Thistle, a band from Rossland, and Kerri Holmes played some Celtic violin.
Nelson said that Burns Night has been a tradition in Fernie since the early 1900s.
“There were households having Burns Nights for many years, and last year two of the families who hosted the nights approached the museum,” she said.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a $100,000 cheque by Nic Milligan of Teck to the museum project.
