A snowmobiler was rescued from a backcountry trip after being thrown from his sled and breaking his leg.

B.C. Ambulance was called at around 1 p.m. on Friday last week with a report that a 33-year-old man needed assistance.

The snowmobiler was part of a group sledding south of Corbin Road and had hit a drift of snow in flat light, causing him to be propelled forward with enough force to break his right femur.

Fernie Search and Rescue personnel responded with a helicopter to stabilise and fly the injured man to the Elk Valley Hospital where he was met by BCAS. Upon assessment of his injuries, the man was transferred by BCAS to Calgary for further medical attention.
