The Fernie Trails Alliance (FTA) hosted the Trail Razr event at the Fernie Golf Course on Saturday, May 30 to raise money for trail maintenance.
Organizer Troy Nixon said that with the excellent reception the event had garnered, he hoped to make it an annual event.
“It’s springtime, the trails need maintenance and they don’t maintain themselves,” he said, adding, “We had 1300 riders use [Mount Proctor] trails between April and May and that’s a lot of traffic so this money will definitely be put to good use.”
Nixon approximated that the event would raise at least $10,000 through ticket sales, a silent auction and prize baskets for random draw.
In addition to maintenance of current trails, some of the funds would go towards building new trails for hikers and bikers alike to use.
Live music provided by the Fernie Old Type Music Society was also a welcome soundtrack during the evening’s festivities.
