A service to commemorate miners who have lost their lives in the workplace will be held today in Sparwood.

A service to commemorate miners who have lost their lives in the workplace will be held today in Sparwood.

A day of mourning is being held nationwide to remember those who have been killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace hazards and incidents, and to highlight the importance of safety in the workplace.

The United Steelworkers Local 9346 that represents the employees of Teck’s Elkview Operations, is inviting people to join them at their Day of Mourning Service to remember and honour sisters, brothers, son, daughters, mothers, fathers, co-workers and friends who have lost their lives while in the workplace.

A service will be held at 5 p.m. at Centennial Square in Sparwood on Thursday, April 28. For more information, contact the USW Local 9346 office at 250-425-0131.
