The Fernie Old Growth Hockey Team are a self-described bunch of older gentlemen who like to get together for a beer but also have a hockey problem.

They get together to play every Sunday at Fernie Memorial Arena in the winter.

Each year they raise some men through fees and the beer funds donate approximately $1000 to local charities. they have donated to Angel Flight East Kootenay and Cycling Without Age, for example.

This year the chosen charities were the Salvation Army Food Bank and the Elk Valley Suicide Task Force. Each received $500.
