Say “I love you” with the purr-fect card this Valentine's Day!
The Fernie Pets Society's Spay and Neuter Incentive Program (SNiP) is fundraising by selling romantically themed greeting cards at local Fernie businesses. Starting February 1, the cards will be available for purchase at Ghostrider Trading Company, Frejya, Barkside, TD Canada Trust, Gear Hub, and a Country Animal Hospital.
The cards sell for a donation of $4, with all the proceeds going directly to the SNiP program. The program pays for the spaying and neutering of feral cats and subsidizes the cost for domestic cats.
“Studies have shown that just one cat and her offspring can produce over 3,500 cats in their lifetime. The life of a feral cat is often short, dangerous, and stressful, something no animal deserves,” explained Jenn Woods, with the Fernie Pets Society. “By spaying and neutering as many cats as possible, the Fernie Pets Society hopes to reduce the number of stray cats and unwanted litters of kittens.”
She added, “When possible, the Fernie Pets Society aids in the fostering and the re-homing of these cats, thanks to our wonderful foster parents and Barkside. Many cats in Fernie have already been helped, but there is still much work to be done and we can’t do it alone.”
The two designs available were designed by Lisa Holst and printed by Fernie Blueprint. The Fernie Bottle Depot is also taking donations from recyclables to go towards SNiP and there are donation jars in several different businesses around town. The Fernie Pets Society is always on the lookout for foster parents and volunteers.
