The Miners’ walk strides forward

Teck presented The Miners’ Walk committee with a cheque for $100,000 last week.

Nic Milligan met the committee members at City Hall in Fernie to give them the money that will go towards creating an outdoor exhibit to tell the story of mining in the Elk Valley.

“The Miners’ Walk will tell the whole story of the importance of mining and the powerful effect it has had in shaping what Fernie is today,” said committee member Mary Giuliano.

“This will be done by creating an outdoor exhibit that is compelling, enduring and attractive. From this people will gain a respect for what happened in the past, is happening now and will be part of creating a positive future.”

The exhibit will be built outside City Hall and the committee hopes to install it this summer after getting final approval from council on Monday.
